Flower care recommendations

"Proper care — flowers bloom, and moments last"

Flowers are not just a gift or a decoration, but a living story that blooms in your hands. They fill a space with beauty, tenderness, and emotion, preserving memories of the most precious moments. But, like every living thing, they need attention and care. By following a few simple care rules, you will help the flowers delight you with their perfection for longer and stay as fresh as if they had just bloomed.

To keep flowers looking their best for as long as possible, it is important to know the care specifics of each type:

General care for flowers, bouquets, and arrangements:

I. Flowers need moisture, like thirsty earth after rain.

After purchase, it is important to place the bouquet in water as soon as possible — ideally within 30 minutes, especially in summer. Without water, the stems quickly lose their strength and the petals their softness, which can lead to premature wilting and the loss of their natural beauty.

II. Fresh water and a clean vase are the foundation of care.

Cleanliness is the key to long-lasting flowers. Always use fresh water at room temperature and a clean vase, because even the smallest contamination can affect how long they last. The ideal water level in the vase depends on the type of flower.

III. A proper cut is the key to fresh flowers.

The final touch before the flowers take their place in the vase is a proper cut. It is important to trim the stems immediately before placing them in water, so that no more than a minute passes between the fresh cut and the water. Otherwise, air will enter the open capillaries of the stem and form a microscopic plug that stops the flowers from taking up moisture. To avoid this, trim the stems by 2–3 cm with a sharp knife or secateurs. The ideal cutting angle depends on the type of flower.

IV. Daily care is the key to lasting beauty.

Change the water, wash the vase, and recut the stems every day. This prevents bacteria from multiplying and helps the flowers stay fresh for longer.

V. Fallen leaves in the water are a hidden threat to the flowers.

Leaves that fall into the vase encourage bacteria that spoil the water and can cause the stems to rot. This is one of the main reasons flowers wilt too soon. To prevent it, regularly remove leaves from the water and keep the water clean. To extend the life of flowers in a vase, remove most of the leaves from the bouquet, because leaves evaporate moisture actively and the buds may not receive enough of it. Clean water without extra debris, together with proper care, will help the bouquet stay fresh and beautiful for a long time.

VI. The secret of freshness is the right flower food.

If you use flower preservatives, follow the manufacturer’s instructions and measure the dose correctly. The first time you fill the vase, add the preservative at the right concentration, and add it in the same proportion each time you change the water. With a preservative, you do not need to change the water every day — only once every 3–4 days, or when it becomes cloudy. This reduces the risk of bacteria and helps the flowers stay fresh for longer. The correct dose extends the life of the bouquet and preserves its natural beauty.

VII. Avoid sudden temperature changes.

Keep the bouquet away from heat and cold that affect its freshness — radiators, air conditioners, draughts, and direct sunlight. The best temperature for keeping flowers is from +5 to +20°C. Arrangements are best placed in a cool spot so they delight you with their natural beauty for longer.

Please note:

Sudden temperature changes greatly shorten the life of flowers, especially in winter. In freezing temperatures, flowers must be protected so they do not get too cold. Before going outside, wrap the bouquet carefully in paper or cellophane to hold some warmth and shield it from the frosty air. Even when wrapped, do not keep flowers in the frost for more than 15 minutes, because low temperatures make the petals and stems lose their firmness. Flowers that have been too cold wilt quickly and cannot be revived, so in cold weather it is important to keep the bouquet outdoors for as little time as possible.
If the flowers will be without water for a long time during transport, use aqua boxes or special moisture holders ("diapers" for flowers) so the stems do not dry out. This is especially important in hot weather and in frost, when plants lose moisture faster. If the bouquet will be given somewhere it cannot be placed in a vase quickly (for example, in a restaurant or at an event), an arrangement in floral foam (oasis) is a better choice. It keeps the flowers fresh without the need to find a container of water right away.
Do not place the bouquet next to fruit — fruit releases ethylene, which speeds up blooming and wilting.
